Consume All Media! Spy Smasher "Chapter Two: Human Target"

Joe Heath is a big fan of comic books and watching things in order. So they made this spreadsheet containing every serial, short, film, television episode, commercial, motion comic, and web series based on a comic book. Now they're watching them all. Previously, Joe started smashing spies. This time, they continue with chapter two.

Spy Smasher "Chapter Two: Human Target" - 17:35 (Available on YouTube.)

We’re only on our second-ever comic book serial and already we’re seeing the same episode titles. Chapter Seven of Adventures of Captain Marvel was called “Human Targets.” (Yes, this is the kind of thing I’m going to keep track of in these articles.)

So before the fire can reach the cart, Spy Smasher chucks one of the grenades into the fire, stopping it.

Can… can you put out a fire with a grenade? I mean, I’m no scientist, but I doubt this would work. If you are a scientist, please let me know if I am wrong and also do you have a lab coat and beakers full of strange liquids? That’s really cool.

Anyway, Corby gets to the café and checks things out. He is approached by a news reporter, Drake (Tristram Coffin).

Actor Highlights

Tristram Coffin (1909-1990)

Other comic book media credits: Various roles in four episodes of Adventures of Superman (1952-57), Principal Garwood in Stamp Day for Superman (1954) and an ambassador in two episodes of Batman (1966)

Corby says he’s too busy studying evidence right now, so Drake exits, but leaves his camera on. Because he’s transmitting the footage to The Mask!

Corby finds a bag that says Martinidad on it, so he figures the operation must be based there. However he legally can’t do anything other than call in to Martinidad’s government and say “Please, don’t do this thing.” Hearing this, The Mask tells Drake they should cease operations in Martinidad anyway. Just in case.

Also listening in on this from a nearby room is Spy Smasher. Spy Smasher doesn’t have to play by the government’s rules, so he flies into Martinidad. There he meets a blacksmith to get some information. However some of The Mask’s men follow him in and a fight breaks out, resulting in the blacksmith’s death.

Still, Spy Smasher finds a prison and breaks in. Just in time to save Capt. Pierre Durand from being hanged!

They escape and are chased. Many exciting gunfights and fist fights occur. After struggling with one particular villain, Spy Smasher gets away only to be shot in the back.

Should you watch it, though? Some of the plot was a little hard to follow in this one, but the action sequences are very good.

Tune in next time for Spy Smasher "Chapter Three: Iron Coffin" (Available on YouTube.)
