Consume All Media! Batman and Robin: "Chapter Seven: The Fatal Blast!"

Joe Heath is a big fan of comic books and watching things in order. So they made this spreadsheet containing every serial, short, film, television episode, commercial, motion comic, and web series based on a comic book. Now they're watching them all. Previously, Joe watched the sixth chapter of Batman and Robin. This time, they continue with the seventh chapter.

Batman and Robin: “Chapter Seven: The Fatal Blast!” - 16:47 (Available on Amazon)

As the room fills up with gas, Batman pulls out a couple of weird pipes for him and Robin to breathe through. Also, a very large blowtorch.

It's incredibly lucky that he just happened to have those on him... somewhere.

He burns a hole through the door and they escape.

Barry Brown gives a report that Batman and Robin died in the warehouse. Alfred is saddened to hear this, but he doesn't get much of an opportunity to express a genuine human emotion as Bruce and Dick walk in immediately afterward, disproving the report.

The Wizard makes an announcement that he wants some money or he's going to stop all of the trains. He stops a couple of trains, just to show he's serious.

Barry Brown says on his radio program that an investigator, Winslow Harrison, will be looking into this. Batman and Robin figure this is some sort of tip off for the Wizard, so they go to find and protect him.

Vicki also tries to track down Harrison, but Batman pulls her car over. They have a delightful conversation where she points out that he seems to be driving Bruce Wayne's car. Batman says Bruce is letting him borrow it. Then he steals her car keys and says he'll have Bruce drop by and pick her up later. After they leave, Vicki pulls out a spare key, because unlike everyone else in this serial, she's not an idiot.

The Wizard remotely stops Harrison's car. Harrison (Ralph Graves) gets out and is grabbed by henchmen.

Actor Highlights

Ralph Graves (1900-1977)

Trivia: Graves was an actor, but also wanted to be a writer and director. In 1926, he convinced Howard Hughes to produce a film he wrote, directed, and starred in called Swell Hogan. The movie was so terrible, Hughes destroyed the only copy of the film. In a 1972 interview for the book, Howard Hughes: Hell's Angel, Graves says he was hustling Hughes, who he called "the sucker with money." Graves also claims to have had a more intimate affair with Hughes, saying "I fucked him in more ways than one." Who knew there was so much NSFW trivia related to this serial?

Batman and Robin show up and fight the henchmen. Batman and Harrison wind up inside of a cabin that has been rigged to explode. But to spice things up, it's not a normal bomb, but instead some weird device that makes the clock and Harrison's watch go wacky before things randomly start catching on fire.

Then the cabin explodes.

Should you watch it, though? The blowtorch opening, the scene with Vicki, and the bonkers ending are fun, but the rest is fairly routine.

Tune in next time for Batman and Robin: "Chapter Eight: Robin Meets the Wizard!" (Available on Amazon.)
