Consume All Media! Batman and Robin: "Chapter Six: Target - Robin!"

Joe Heath is a big fan of comic books and watching things in order. So they made this spreadsheet containing every serial, short, film, television episode, commercial, motion comic, and web series based on a comic book. Now they're watching them all. Previously, Joe watched the fifth chapter of Batman and Robin. This time, they continue with the sixth chapter.

Batman and Robin: “Chapter Six: Target - Robin!” - 17:32 (Available on Amazon)

Batman and Vicki just get out of the water. Problem solved. The henchmen start to go after them, but Robin sounds a siren and they run off. But Batman and Robin managed to get Mac Lacey off the streets.

So Batman is going to go undercover as Mac Lacey.

He even has a membership card.

Bruce, or Mac Lacey, goes to the Harbor Club. No one questions that he's not Mac, despite looking exactly the same as Bruce and nothing at all like Mac. Bruce pulled this same trick much better in the original Batman serial.

They all drive to the henchman headquarters. Along the way, the car runs over a bump in the road. For absolutely no reason, one of the henchmen audibly says something along the lines of "Ah, yes. The speed bump that alerts headquarters that a car is approaching."

Bruce throws a cigarette out of the car window, but it's actually a flare to warn Robin of the speed bump trap. Robin sees it and proceeds on foot.

The henchmen tune into a Barry Brown broadcast, seemingly the only entertainment in Gotham. Brown says that Mac Lacey is being held by the police for questioning. The henchmen remove Bruce's bandages but say he still looks like Mac... but he doesn't! He looks exactly like Bruce Wayne???

Robin shines a bat signal to distract them.

This is also exactly what happened in the original Batman serial!

However, the plan doesn't work this time as the henchmen rush outside and grab Robin.

Mac tries to make a break for it, but is stopped by the returning henchmen. He admits that he isn't Mac, but was actually covering for Mac. Which makes no sense at all. What makes even less sense is when Nolan gives Bruce a loaded gun. He says the gun only has two bullets and in order to prove that he's actually a bad guy, Bruce has to use at least one of those bullets on Robin.

So Bruce shoots Robin.

What the hell, Bruce?
What the hell, Bruce?

The henchmen go to check on Robin, but he jumps up and fights them.

Sorry, that was a pre-emptive use of the kill count. Let me fix that.

Bruce uses his second bullet to shoot the lights out. He escapes with Robin.

Robin messed up the henchmen's car, so they can't follow. Nolan calls the Wizard to catch him up. The Wizard is annoyed and tells Nolan he's going to kill him later. But in the meantime, put some other henchman on the phone. They're the lead henchman now.

As Bruce and Dick drive home, we learn that Bruce didn't actually shoot Dick. He just shot Dick's belt buckle. Holy child endangerment, Batman!

They spot the Bat Signal, so Bruce calls Gordon from a gas station pay phone. Gordon tells him there was a new broadcast talking about something going down on Marine Street. So Batman and Robin drive there.

They see some henchmen duck inside a building, so they follow them into what is clearly a trap. They are locked in a room and gassed.

Should you watch it, though? This was done much better in Batman: "Chapter Nine: The Sign of the Sphinx." But shooting Robin was a fun addition AND relevant to the chapter title.

Tune in next time for Batman and Robin: "Chapter Seven: The Fatal Blast" (Available on Amazon.)
