Consume All Media! The Vigilante: "Chapter Five: In the Gorilla's Cage"

Joe Heath is a big fan of comic books and watching things in order. So they made this spreadsheet containing every serial, short, film, television episode, commercial, motion comic, and web series based on a comic book. Now they're watching them all. Previously, Joe watched the fourth chapter of The Vigilante. This time, they vigilantly continue with the fifth.

The Vigilante: “Chapter Five: In the Gorilla's Cage” - 18:47

There’s a slight retcon here as it turns out the henchmen didn’t even fire his gun. The gunshot we heard was actually the security guard shooting the henchman’s gun out of his hand.

Also, the other henchman and The Vigilante land in a big tub of water.

The henchmen run away and The Vigilante thanks the security guard before chasing them.

The henchmen somehow get enough of a lead to set up a trap by tying a rope between a large wooden structure and the trailer of their truck. They lure The Vigilante underneath the structure, then pull the whole thing down on top of him. The Vigilante crawls out and is fine, but the henchmen get away.

All of this is completely ludicrous, but I love it.

X1 tells his henchmen to try a different approach and swap out the horses.

Greg is filming a fight scene when Pierce and Betty come by on their horses. There’s some clunky dialogue where they comment that their horses are perfect twins. As soon as they leave to watch Greg film, two henchmen swap the saddles on their horses.

Betty and Pierce get tired of watching Greg film very quickly and head back to their horses. Betty tries to get on her horse, but the saddle falls off. The horse runs off past Greg, who chases it down. Greg and Betty notice the saddles were swapped and swap them back.

Later, Pierce complains to the henchmen that they forgot to swap the blankets and it gave it away. He goes in to talk to X1 about it, to smooth things over.

So I guess Pierce isn’t X1. Huh.

Anyway, Prince Hamil also wants the horse. Or rather something the horse has… So the Prince’s servants lock Betty in her trailer, so they can steal her horse. But when they get to her horse, they see too many guards and chicken out. Then they go back and release Betty. So… that was a scene, I guess.

Some of X1’s henchmen show up to steal the horse and Greg and Betty wind up in a fight with them. Betty runs away and winds up getting locked in the gorilla’s enclosure.

(This is the same gorilla in the same serial, so he only gets on the gorilla count once. But he really gets to shine in this chapter and the next.)

Should you watch it, though? A lot of failed or pointless plans in this one, but there is a gorilla, so I can’t complain too much.

Tune in next time for The Vigilante: "Chapter Six: Battling the Unknown"
