Consume All Media! The Vigilante: "Chapter Eight: Blasted to Eternity"

Joe Heath is a big fan of comic books and watching things in order. So they made this spreadsheet containing every serial, short, film, television episode, commercial, motion comic, and web series based on a comic book. Now they're watching them all. Previously, Joe watched the seventh chapter of The Vigilante. This time, they vigilantly continue with the eighth.

The Vigilante: “Chapter Eight: Blasted to Eternity” - 18:58

We again see the full stunt of The Vigilante painfully tumbling down the hill. Then he dusts himself off and climbs back up, completely unharmed.

Meanwhile, Riley investigates a car that’s running with no lights on. The Prince is in it and he speeds off. Riley catches him and takes him in for questioning.

Everyone winds up at the police station where Riley questions the Prince. The Prince, as usual, says nothing. Greg asks the Prince if he was also being blackmailed and he confirms this. Way to give him an alibi, Greg.

Riley confers with Greg and says “We’re up against someone who’s almost as smart as you think you are.” Damn, Riley! Get him!

Later, Tex Collier, the ranch owner, announces that he’s going to hold a race and the winner will get his white horse. So Greg and Betty both decide to enter.

When Greg films another scene in his movie, some henchmen knock out the other actor in the scene and take his place. The henchman knocks Greg off his horse and punches him a couple of times, then runs off. During this scuffle, Greg hurts his knee. He later announces that due to his injury, he’s out of the race.

HE HAS SURVIVED SO MUCH WORSE, THOUGH??? He’s been flung off of two different cliffs with hardly a scratch!

As everyone else shows up for the race, one of the henchmen tampers with the reins on Betty’s horse.

Let the race begin!

Pretty soon, the reins on Betty’s horse snap and she goes off-course. But it’s okay. The Vigilante rides up and rescues her. I knew his knee was fine.

The Vigilante rides to the finish line and says that the race has been tampered with. The henchman gets mad about this and starts a small fight that devolves into a horse chase.

The henchman ducks into a house and ducks back out after setting up some dynamite. The Vigilante enters and the building explodes.

Wait, was this planned? Did the henchman know there was dynamite in there? I question the logic of this whole scene.

Should you watch it, though? Greg is indestructible unless he hurts his knee (and even then, he’s actually fine). There’s some good dialogue and the race is fun! The end is a little wobbly, but I’ll allow it.

Tune in next time for The Vigilante: "Chapter Nine: The Fatal Flood"
