Consume All Media! Superman: "Chapter Six: Superman in Danger!"

Joe Heath is a big fan of comic books and watching things in order. So they made this spreadsheet containing every serial, short, film, television episode, commercial, motion comic, and web series based on a comic book. Now they're watching them all. Previously, Joe watched the fifth chapter of Superman. This time, they continue with the sixth.

Superman: “Chapter Six: Superman in Danger!” - 15:45 (Available on Amazon)

Lois wakes up and screams. Superman hears it with his super hearing, then sees it with his x-ray vision. He rushes in and saves her. But he’s still got to go after those henchman, so he says “Up up and away!” and jumps out of the window.

The same animation of him landing on a car plays, then he stops the henchmen’s car.

Superman fights the henchmen, but they throw the Kryptonite at him and he passes out.

Later, the Spider Lady breaks a cohort named Dr. Hackett (Charles Quigley) out of prison.

Perry assigns Clark to research the story. When Lois asks him what his new story is, he lies about it, because he’s learning. Adorable.

Clark talks to Hawkins, the stool pigeon, who gets nervous when he sees a car pulls up. Clark follows the car. Turns out, Lois was following Clark. So she takes Hawkins to eat in exchange for whatever info he was going to give Clark.

The henchmen go to a house where they are holding Hackett. Clark sneaks around outside and uses his super hearing to listen in. He learns they are going to sneak Hackett out in an ambulance. The henchmen leave to get the ambulance and Clark sneaks inside. He ties Hackett up in a closet. Then Clark calls the Planet to tell them where Hackett is and that he’s gonna track down the Spider Lady. Perry says not to do that, but Clark hangs up on him.

Clark quickly bandages himself up. The ambulance arrives and carts him off.

Lois arrives shortly afterward, following the info she got from Hawkins. She hears Hackett thumping against the closet door. Not knowing who he is, Lois unties him. He quickly takes her hostage and they leave in her car (with Lois driving, which seems like a bad move).

The henchmen soon realize that Clark isn’t Hackett. They rough him up a bit and throw him down a hill. Considering the fact that he’s Superman, Clark had to have been faking this, right? He deflects bullets, for crying out loud!

Anyway, after they leave to go look for the real Hackett, Clark dusts himself off and declares this as a job for Superman. (His fourth time doing so, if you’re keeping track. I know I am.)

The henchmen’s car drives past Lois’s car. Hackett tells her to stop, but she refuses. They get into a scuffle. Hackett knocks Lois out and jumps out of the car.

Now without a conscious driver, the car veers off the road.

Should you watch it, though? We are fully into the “defeat the henchmen” style-plotting now, but it’s interestingly written, so I don’t mind so much. I also just love Lois and Clark trying to one-up each other and making bad decisions in the process.

Tune in next time for Superman: "Chapter Seven: Into the Electric Furnace!" (Available on Amazon)
