Consume All Media! Spy Smasher "Chapter Four: Stratosphere Invaders"

Joe Heath is a big fan of comic books and watching things in order. So they made this spreadsheet containing every serial, short, film, television episode, commercial, motion comic, and web series based on a comic book. Now they're watching them all. Previously, Joe watched the third chapter of smashing spies. This time, they continue with the fourth chapter.

Spy Smasher "Chapter Four: Stratosphere Invaders" - 16:49 (Available on YouTube.)

Durand shoves Spy Smasher into a torpedo chute and sends him to the surface. However, Durand is unable to escape the cliffhanger and sadly drowns.

When Spy Smasher gets to safety, he notices that Durand has pinned a pin on him. Spy Smasher says that when this is all over, he’s going to put it on the top of the Eiffel Tower in his honor. (We never see this happen.)

Spy Smasher gives Jack a coded message he found during all of this and Jack takes it to Corby. They decode it and realize a bomb facility is being robbed… in half an hour! Spy Smasher rushes to the facility on a motorcycle while the Mask flies in on a futuristic plane called… The Bat Plane.

No, not that one. This one:

A very elaborate fight happens in the warehouse. The Mask’s men almost get away with the bomb, but Spy Smasher shoots the man holding the case with the bomb and he drops it.

The rest of The Mask’s men get away in the plane. Spy Smasher wants to take out the plane, so he sets up a trap with Corby’s help

A fake news article is released saying that a plane carrying the bomb was lost. Jack calls in on the radio to report that he’s found it in the mountains. The Mask’s men are listening in on this and head to the mountains.

After spotting the Bat Plane, Spy Smasher and Jack hide out and wait for them to land. Instead they get caught, because The Mask’s men expected a trap and some of them parachuted out before arriving.

The Mask’s men go to where they think the bomb is, open a crate, and it explodes in their face. A fight instantly breaks out and Spy Smasher punches a man off of a cliff.

He makes his way into the Bat Plane and fights the pilot as it takes off. Since no one is at the wheel, the plane crashes into the mountain and explodes.

Spy Smasher just broke Captain Marvel’s previous kill count record, but had to off himself in order to do it… (Also, RIP Bat Plane. You were truly a beautiful craft.)

Should you watch it, though? Again, this serial surprises me by having somewhat intelligent villains. They saw a trap coming and they avoided it. True, they fell into a second trap, but still! It’s nice to see characters being smart instead of just blindly walking from plot point to plot point.

Tune in next time for Spy Smasher "Chapter Five: Descending Doom" (Available on YouTube.)
