Consume All Media! Congo Bill: "Chapter Four: Congo Bill Springs A Trap"

Joe Heath is a big fan of comic books and watching things in order. So they made this spreadsheet containing every serial, short, film, television episode, commercial, motion comic, and web series based on a comic book. Now they're watching them all. Previously, Joe watched the third chapter of Congo Bill. This time, they continue with the fourth chapter.

Congo Bill: “Chapter Four: Congo Bill Springs A Trap” - 16:32 (Available on YouTube)

One of Bocar’s men turns off the clockwork and Bill gets out. He throws a barrel through the window to distract them. Bocar’s men go outside to investigate, then give up and return to Bocar. Bill follows them.

Bill confronts Bocar. Bocar says these men aren’t murderers, they are his bodyguards. He then offers to get Bill some men for his safari.

In the US, a circus employee tries to blackmail Bernie, but Bernie and Morelli grab him and take him to the lions. The employee tells them about Tom’s letter, but they still leave him to be eaten by the lion.

That’s a real lion jumping on a real person, by the way. I mean, it’s pretty clear to see that the lion is just play-fighting, but it’s still a little terrifying.

Back in Africa, Bocar brings safari men to Bill while Kleeg sneaks into his room and looks for the letter. He notices the fan is on and turns it off in disgust, declaring it “Wasteful.” That’s a pretty solid joke that’s only somewhat lessened by the fact that he does actually find the letter on the fan. Though he tells Bocar he didn’t find it. Sneaky!

Congo Bill makes plans for the safari, while Bocar makes plans for the betrayal of Congo Bill, while Kleeg makes a fake copy of the letter.

Congo Bill gets the fake letter and the safari begins! He meets his crew which includes a local youth named Kahla (Neyle Morrow). He will be filling the role of kid sidekick.

Most of the safari rides in a car, while their possessions are carried by Africans walking behind them. Gross!

After looking at some stock footage of elephants and giraffes, the safari finds a spot to camp.

They are soon shot at by Bocar’s men. Bill and Kahla jump in the car and chase them down, but get caught in an explosion.

Should you watch it, though? The scene with the lion and joke with the fan are the highlights of a serial that mostly contains racism and people traveling through stock footage.

Tune in next time for Congo Bill: "Chapter Five: White Shadows in the Jungle" (Available on YouTube.)
