Joe Heath is a big fan of comic books and watching things in order. So they made this spreadsheet containing every serial, short, film, television episode, commercial, motion comic, and web series based on a comic book. Now they're watching them all. Previously, Joe watched the seventh chapter of Batman. This time, they continue with the eighth.
Batman: “Chapter Eight: Lured by Radium” - 16:36 (Available on Archive)

Release date: September 3rd, 1943
The henchmen had previously knocked out Robin and just… left him there? So Robin gets up and easily stops the elevator before it crushes Batman. Luckily, the fall didn’t do him any damage, despite the dummy’s legs basically bending backwards when it landed.

Daka tortures Colton and he agrees to take them to the mine. Daka’s henchmen drive Colton out to the mine. On the way there, they stop off for some gas and are rude to the Native American man who runs the station.
Colton leads the henchmen into a cave, then knocks out their lantern and escapes.
Meanwhile, Bruce, Dick, Linda, and Alfred drive up to the mine. They are much nicer to the Native American man and get directions to the mine and some sweet clay pots. Though Dick lives up to his name and pokes fun at the man’s bad English. Come on. You’re better than that, Dick.
Anyway, Linda and Alfred crash at Colton’s nearby cabin while Bruce and Dick go to check out the caves as Batman and Robin.
Colton pops up through a trapdoor into his cabin, ruining Linda’s lunch.

Why would you put your trapdoor right under the dinner table? I wouldn’t want anything potentially interrupting my meals. That is just some poor planning. Come on. You’re better than this, Colton.
Anyway, Colton decides to blow up the mine and everyone in it. Linda says to hold up because Bruce and Dick are headed that way. Alfred goes to warn them, but is immediately caught.
Everyone winds up fighting in the same area of the cave, when one of the henchmen falls on a plunger, setting off Colton’s explosives.
Should you watch it, though? The mine shenanigans are pretty good, but this serial’s racism is so bizarre. It seems to indicate that the henchmen are bad for being rude to the gas station owner, whereas Bruce is nicer to him and is rewarded for it. But then Dick just makes fun of his English and no one says a word about it. Though showing that Bruce is a good person by having him be patient with a Native American is problematic in its own way.
Come on. You are better than this, 1943.
Tune in next time for Batman: "Chapter Nine: The Sign of the Sphinx" (Available on Archive.)
