Joe Heath is a big fan of comic books and watching things in order. So they made this spreadsheet containing every serial, short, film, television episode, commercial, motion comic, and web series based on a comic book. Now they’re watching them all. Previously, Joe watched the first ever chapter of a comic book serial. This time, they continue with the second chapter.
Adventures of Captain Marvel: “Chapter Two: The Guillotine” - 16:34 (Available on Tubi.)

In the second chapter of the 12-part series, Captain Marvel dives into the river and saves fellow expedition members Betty Wallace (Louise Currie)...

Actor Highlights
Louise Currie (1913-2013)
Other memorable credits: An uncredited role in Citizen Kane. Before her death at the age of 100, she was the last known living Citizen Kane cast member.
...and the comic relief character Whitey Murphy (William Benedict).

Actor Highlights
William Benedict (1917-1999)
Other memorable credits: Also played a character named Whitey in The Bowery Boys films from 1946 to 1951.
Other comic book media credits: An episode of 1977’s The Incredible Hulk.
While neither of these characters originated in the comic, they both showed up in the previously mentioned comic book sequel and Whitey went on to be in the comic series proper.
Everyone goes back to America and we soon learn that The Scorpion is one of the men from the Expedition, though we don’t learn which one.

The Scorpion hires a guy named Barnett (Kenneth Duncan) to steal the lenses. Barnett kidnaps Henry Carlyle (Bryant Washburn) and threatens him with an elaborate guillotine trap.
Actor Highlights
Kenneth Duncan (1903-1972)
Other comic book media credits: Fred the Mechanic in Batman (1943), Ed Graham in Captain America (1944)
It is arranged for Betty to drop off the lens, but Billy and Whitey stick around to follow whoever picks it up. They are immediately caught and get into a fist fight. Billy turns into Captain Marvel and punches a handful of guys and throws one of them off of a bridge.
I’m going to be lenient here and not include this on the Captain Marvel Kill Count™ because Billy fell off the bridge earlier without dying. But you’re on thin ice, Captain Marvel.
Captain Marvel follows the escaping Barnett to his hideout, where Barnett realizes they’ve been given an empty box instead of the lens. So he threatens Carlyle with the guillotine again. Captain Marvel bursts in and rescues him, but gets shocked by an electrically-charged trap and winds up on the guillotine’s conveyor belt himself. CLIFFHANGER!
Should you watch it, though? While a little less exciting than the first chapter, we do get a change of scenery, moving out of the desert and into an American city. We also get some intrigue out of trying to figure out which expedition member is the Scorpion. If you enjoyed the first chapter, you might as well watch the rest, right?
Tune in next time for Adventures of Captain Marvel "Chapter Three: Time Bomb" (Available on Tubi.)
