Consume All Media! Superman: "Chapter Thirteen: Hurled to Destruction"

Joe Heath is a big fan of comic books and watching things in order. So they made this spreadsheet containing every serial, short, film, television episode, commercial, motion comic, and web series based on a comic book. Now they're watching them all. Previously, Joe watched the twelfth chapter of Superman. This time, they continue with the thirteenth.

Superman: “Chapter Thirteen: Hurled to Destruction” - 15:54 (Available on Amazon)

The cave-in knocks out Lois, so Clark rips off the cuffs, changes into Superman, flies out with Lois, then changes back into Clark, and puts the cuffs back on. The outfit change seems a little unnecessary.

Lois regains consciousness and Clark says that Superman saved them. Lois is confused because she thought they were handcuffed on different sides. Clark just laughs this off. Then Jimmy finds them and says they’re really attached to each other. THEY’RE ALL SO ADORABLE!

Meanwhile, Graham refuses to cooperate, so the Spider Lady hypnotizes him. Under hypnosis, he tells them he needs a relativity tube and how they can get one.

Perry sends Clark and Jimmy to the university to photograph the reducer ray which I thought had exploded in chapter 10.

The Spider Lady’s henchmen beat them there, saying they’re with the Globe. When they get to the building holding the ray, some security guards come out and say they can only take pictures of the outside of the building. The henchmen say that’s fine, but offer to include them in the picture to liven it up a bit. The guards are flattered and pose for the camera. But instead of taking pictures, the camera shoots darts at them. The henchmen hide the bodies and change into their clothes. One of them goes inside to get the tube.

Jimmy arrives and is annoyed that they no longer have an exclusive. He tries to bribe the “guards” but it obviously doesn’t work. They redirect him to the science building. Jimmy heads in the direction they pointed him, but gets very confused when he sees a sign saying the science building is the building he just left. He returns just in time to see the henchmen being sneaky.

One henchman, Anton (Jack Ingram) fights Jimmy, while the others get away with the tube. Eventually, Anton gets the upper hand and forces Jimmy to drive him away in his car.

Actor Highlights

Jack Ingram (1902-1969)

Other comic book media: Henchman Klein in Batman (1943), Lieutenant Riley in Hop Harrigan (1946), Silver AKA X2 in The Vigilante (1947), Cameron in Congo Bill (1948), & Foster in Atom Man vs. Superman (1950)

Clark sees the cars leaving with his super awesome vision and says “This looks like a job for Superman!” for the sixth time.

Superman lands on Jimmy’s car and grabs Anton by the throat.

Jimmy asks Superman to take Anton to the Planet for questioning, so he flies away with him. Then he just tosses Anton in through Perry’s window.

Perry’s questioning turns into a fight and Perry is knocked out of the window.

Should you watch it, though? This chapter is pretty fun with plenty of action, though it sidelines Lois a bit.
