Consume All Media! Hop Harrigan: "Chapter Two: The Secret Ray"

Joe Heath is a big fan of comic books and watching things in order. So they made this spreadsheet containing every serial, short, film, television episode, commercial, motion comic, and web series based on a comic book. Now they're watching them all. Previously, Joe watched the first chapter of Hop Harrigan. This time, they continue with the second.

Hop and Tank finally get to take their goggles off and land. They enter an elevator hidden behind a rock and descend into Tobor’s secret lab in the mountains where Tobor shows them a model of his new plane that’s powered by a new form of energy, but he won’t tell them what the new energy is.

Tobor explains that he’s paranoid because a Ray Gun he had previously invented has been stolen and he doesn’t want that to happen to his plane.

He also gives Hop a model plane for Jackie because he knows Jackie likes planes. That’s kind of nice. This whole serial should just be Tobor and Jackie.

Speaking of Jackie, Hunter’s men hide the stolen gold in a barn as Jackie hides nearby and watches. Hunter’s men leave and Jackie chases the car down… on foot?

Hunter’s men grab the unconscious bodies of the original delivery drivers that they swapped places with and put them in a car. They start the car rolling down a hill to fake an accident. After Hunter’s men leave, Jackie chases the rolling car, jumps in, and slows it down so it only somewhat crashes.

Meanwhile, Hop and Tank are once again put in blacked-out goggles as they make their return flight. Tobor notices they are being followed again.

The Chief Pilot’s men set up the stolen Ray Gun and try to shoot them out of the air. This makes Tobor think that Hop has betrayed him, so he gasses Tank and Hop, then parachutes out of the plane.

Hop radios Gail, who watches as the smoking plane goes down.

Should you watch it, though? There’s two plotlines in this and yet nothing is happening! The serial should have really just focused on Jackie’s plot as it’s the more interesting one.
